Hi de Wets Wild, at the base of the tallest building in the picture, you can faintly see a more or less horizontal line of lights at sea level. That’s your favourite Star Ferry (if you are interested I have an earlier article about Star Ferry and Tin Tin – the tram on the island under HK cateogory)! Miichael
Hi evilnymphstuff, thanks very much for the nomination. I have decided not to pursue or accept any nomination / award during my retirement and for this reason, I have already turned down all similar awards. Knowing that my blog is read in many places of the world is already my biggest reward. With regret, I have to decline the nomination. Thank you once again for the nomination and your following which is very much appreciated! Regards, Michael
Thank you Northern Narratives. In fact, for many of the buildings with external lights marking the outline of the buildings, the color of the lights do change with time!
This is the first time I tried out taking night pictures in HK. The picture was taken in the Tsim Shat Tsui seafront promenade which was crowded with tourists. I was just taking pictures as any torurist was doing at the moment. Regards, Michael
Hi David, unfortunately I do not have a photo to compare the skyline in the 1970s and the present. For sure, many of the tall buildings including the IFC were not there at the time. Thanks for the comment! Michael
There are some international students in my cohort who miss big city life. Here in the Midwest, there isn’t much nightlife besides the bars. Anyway, I just watched In the Mood for Love the other day. Maggie Cheung and Tony Leung were excellent!!!
Thank you for visiting my blog and liking my post – Africa’s Highest Mountain – Mt Kilimanjaro. Although I traveled to many countries (traveling is one of my passions), this will be my first time sharing my/our journey. English is not my 1st language either, and thus it will be a little bit of a challenge, just like mountaineering. I love taking pictures and viewing them – they speak a 1000 words! Your blog is an inspiration. When I looked at your posts about the countries I also visited in the past, I felt transported back in time to those places. Hong Kong was one of them. I found the city lively and vibrant, Victoria Peak a real challenge for jogging, the ferry exciting, the The Ten Thousand Buddhas Monastery unforgettable, and Macao simply another world…
Thank you for sharing!
To climb the Africa’s highest mountain to me is just a dream; your photos are breathtaking. Glad that you like my photos too. It looks like you have done a lot of HK already. I used to jog round the Victoria Peak trail when I was young. I used to like Macao, but now with so many casinos and very crowded, I seldom go there anymore. Thanks for the kind comment! Michael
I like the neon and reflection on the water. The topography seems very flat. I know Coronado Islantd in California is only 11 ft above sea level, a little unsettling when thinking of tsunami’s. I would think they are very organized and have a good plan in place?
Hi, the developed costal area is around 15 ft above sea level; while we have no tsunamis, we do have storm surges but is is relatively calm inside the Victoria harbor. The hill rises very rapidly to over 1000 ft behind the buildings. Thanks for your comment! Michael

Wow, the blue lights really pop. Great photo.
Thank you Northern Narratives. In fact, for many of the buildings with external lights marking the outline of the buildings, the color of the lights do change with time!
This is without my favorite view of our world …. Hong Kong at night. Thank you so much.
Hi Viveka, thanks very much for the comment! Michael
You’re so welcome. You’re very talent … with your eyes and lenses.
Thanks for the kind comment, Viveka!
Great pic of a great city!

Great picture – I visited HK several times back in the 70′s.

The Mood for Love is now almost a classic here!
I though it was already a classic? I love those kinds of movies, though–contemplative, maybe a little bit moody, and full of gorgeous shots.
You are right, I should have said it is a classic. Both actors are very good and mellowed somewhat.
It looks magical!
Thank you bmpiller!
One of my favourite nightscapes! lovely capture
Glad that you like the picture! Michael
It is now 2 weeks but I am missing the skyline of Hong Kong plus other landmarks
Hi Indra, hope you are settling in well and enjoying your time. The HK skyline is just unbeatable! Regards, Michael
now that’s pretty!
Thank you paperprotraiture! Michael
Beautiful night scene.
Thank you adinpardise!
