Weekly Photo Challenge: Horizon

The Daily Post’s challenge for this week is Horizon.

The Challenger defines horizon as: “The space or line where the sky meets the earth. So many places where the sky meets the earth around the world, and millions of interactions between two elements. It can be water, a city skyline, a forest, a wasteland, a desert, a sunset outside your bedroom window“.

The horizons in the following pictures particularly speak to me:

The horizon at the Tanjung Rhu  beach in Langkawi where the blue sky meets the water, with a sandy beach in the foreground particularly attracts me.DSC_0095

Further up the hills in Langkawi, the view of the faraway islands fading out in the horizon  conveys a sense of peace to me.DSC_0251

On our way from Gold Coast to Lake Barrine in northern Australia, the clouds just above the horizon where the blue sky meets the blue mountains appeal to me.CIMG0532

Resting on the shore of lake Galve in Lithuania, gazing at the blue water and where the yonder islands meet the sky was a delightful and reflective moment.DSC_0304

The skyline in the Baltics seems eternally has its charm.DSC_0329

The New York City skyline has always been my favorite. Not that I don’t like the skyline of other places like Hong Kong which has got high hills as the background; the New York City skyline allows you to have an unobstructed view of the buildings in the horizon.021

Last, but not the least, I like the horizon I saw in Coronado beach in the US. The sea and the sky seemed to merge as one.LA 014

Horizons allow my eyes and my brain to relax and intrigue me as to what lies beyond.  . . . . . . . . . .

  1. That was the most unorthodox skyline of NYC I’ve seen. It really works, though. Love that line of trees in the foreground. And who can not love the turquoise ocean waters meeting the sky in the distance (sigh… wish I was there).

    • I must admit that I am satisfied with this image I have captured; like you, I like the line of the tree, but also the colored pavement in the foreground. Regards, Michael

  2. Excellent photographs, Michael, capturing the subject of ‘horizon’ so well. I particularly like the first one showing Tanjung Rhu Beach with the creamy-golden sand and the sea the colour of Paul Newman’s eyes. 🙂 Those two small islands are drawing me. I’d love to spend some perfect time alone on one of those … or perhaps have an adventure!

  3. All lovely shots. The city skyline appealed to me instantly and once I read its location I understood. I was born in San Diego but did not grow up there. Still California remains within my heart.

  4. I too am attracted by horizons. Pretty much everyday I go to the beach at the end of my road and gaze out towards the horizon….always different. … colours, clouds, swells and the knowledge that if I kept going Antartica would be there. Thanks for sharing : ) trees

  5. Great pictures. It’s been a long time since I saw the New York City skyline — the best view we ever had of it was when I missed an exit to get to the Island and ended up on the freeway along the coast of New Jersey. I haven’t seen the Coronado beach horizon in a while either, but at least that’s only a short car ride away these days!

  6. I love the feeling of serenity generated by the first photo here. Beautiful! Thanks for visiting my blog and liking my “eerie” entry this week! Gail

  7. There are many of us who like that view of New York City. It appears to have been taken either from Ellis Island, where so many immigrants arrived in the U.S. for the first time, or Liberty Island, where the Statue of Liberty stands watch. Do you happen to recall where you were when you took this photo?

    • Hi Tom, glad to know that some folks do like it. I have been to both islands about a year after 911. If my memory is right, I may have taken this on Ellis island. Regards, Michael
