I can’t help putting forward another entry for this photo challenge; this time for details which are human made.
While travelling in the Baltic countries, I was amazed at the details and colors this door was showing. The door was full of notices, a spider and even a hand sticking out! It was fun photographing it.
The following picture was taken at a temple in Bangkok, Thailand. The repetitive pattern of the details in gold and other contrasting color on the wall was just impressive.
In our recent trip to Yunnan, we stopped by a public a public square. The image below was taken at the entrance to the square. It shows fine details of a cock; more than that, the roof with the timber support and tiles forming the top of the entrance was just awe inspiring.
The last image shows the ancient mosaics tiles on the ground of Esphesus, Turkey.
Have visited quite a few limestone caverns. This cavern in Yunnan which we recently visited has a clever and artistic way of illumination. I love the lanterns!
I must admit that I am more of a “landscape” guy and not a “details” guy. Many a time, I have missed interesting details. Part of the reason is that I do not have good zoom lens / cameras to capture them. Shooting details is fun, this theme reminds me that I should be mindful of these when travelling.
I am the same too. I am hooked to wide angles and I have to force myself to put it away to focus on details when traveling/walking around.
Yes, need a balance between taking landscapes and details. Thanks for the kind comment 🙂
your photos are lovely and make me want to travell more and good job on the weekly photo challenge its so great to see everyones work much inspiration thankyou for sharing
Thank you for the perusal and kind comment 🙂
All of these depict the theme very well, but I like the first one best, maybe because as you said, “It was fun.” I like taking photos of details, and I find that getting quite close to the subject works well, and sometimes a macro lens is perfect. Also by moving close you might see details that you would miss otherwise.
The door has so many interesting details; it was really fun taking that phoot. Thanks for the kind comment 🙂
The last pic is the most beautiful.
Thanks for the kind comment 🙂
The temple picture is my favorite — details, color, composition. It reminds me of temples in Kathmandhu and Bakhtapur where erotic carvings were tucked up under the eaves!!
Would like to visit Kathmandu and Bakhtapur some day. Thanks for the kind comment 🙂
I think the lanterns are very magical. I usually won’t be very interested in climbing in a cave, I’m claustrophobic in that regard…but I appreciate the beauty here.
This cave is quite spacious, not wet and / or confined with steep walks. This is the first time I saw lanterns as a means of illuminating the cave. Thanks for the kind comment 🙂
Unique post. Each picture is telling a riddle .Regards.jalal
Thank you Jalal for the kind comment 🙂
Beautiful colours you can get lost in the detail
Thank you Pommepal!
I LOVE everything your post. Your photos are perfect and your commentary insightful and wonderful. I’m so glad I found your blog!
Thank you! Hope you ae enjoying your stay in Hong Kong 🙂
i love these pictures
Thank you Sarah 🙂
Thank you for visiting my blog, and for writing such a lovely blog yourself. Your photos are magical! What an exciting ‘retirement’ you’re having, which is as it should be, in my opinion ~ more time for exploring new things, and [time to] take advantage of opportunity!
Many thanks for your kind advice which I’l keep in mind. Best regards, Michael
Beautiful lanterns which contrast with the color of the cave, clever!
Glad you like the lanterns picture. Many thanks for the kind comment 🙂
Just to let you know, I’ve nominated you for an inspirational blog award, you can read my nomination post here: http://howtocrossanocean.wordpress.com/2013/03/12/day-70-get-nominated-for-an-inspirational-blog-award/
Hi, thanks so much for the nomination which I understand is an important award. I have decided not to pursue or accept any nomination / award during my retirement and for this reason, I have already turned down all similar awards. Knowing that my blog is read in many places of the world (over 160 countries) is already my biggest reward. With regret, I have to decline the nomination. Thank you once again for the nomination which is very much appreciated! Best wishes to you also, Michael
No problem:)
🙂

Hi Yissele, many thanks for the kind comment 🙂
A beautiful collection of photographs. Especially interested in your pictures of Yunnan – somewhere I’d love to visit one day.
Yunnan is a big province. I have visited it twice now, will visit again. Many thanks for the kind comment 🙂
COOl! (: Props to you for stepping out of your usual “landscape” style into details. Very nice!
Hi jkfacee, many thanks for the kind comment 🙂
😀 Great examples of getting lost in details, dear Michael! 🙂 Have a vey HAPPY week 🙂
Many thanks for the kind comment 🙂 Have a great rest of the week!
Cool (as the teenyboppers used to say)! My favorite is the limestone caverns. Right now, I guess I’m having a really zen moment. For some reason, I just think, “This is ‘intelligent design’.” And, “Eat your heart out, Jackson Pollock!” 🙂
Hi, I like your use of words. I feel great with your comments. Thank you Jackson 🙂
That’s wonderful to hear. Your photos are my most consistent source of leisure from any media these days.
I am flattered. Thank you for the perusal and the encouraging comment 🙂
Great choice of photos again … all full of details – my pick of this great bunch is the top one – becuase of all the strong colors. Fantastic job again, Michael.
I like that too with a lot of colors and details. Thank you Viveka!
I don’t always look at the details either, but really appreciate them , and appreciate your excellent photos here. I tend to see natural details before I see man-made.
Same with me, I like natural more than man made details. Thank you for the perusal and the kind comment 🙂
That detail of the roof caught my eye. Good shot!
You are the first one to express a liking to that roof. Thank you 🙂
I have the same tendency – the landscape, global shot captures my awe, and details tend to escape me. Great shots, though! 🙂
One of my problems is that I don’t have a good zoom lens; but maybe, the problem is that I like landscape more and have not spent enough on equipment for shooting details. Thanks for the perusal and kind comment 🙂
