Black and White Weekly Photo Challenge: Abstract

This is my entry for Sonel’s Black & White Weekly photo challenge.

Abstract is quite difficult to define. When I look up a dictionary, it explains as: “thought of apart from concrete realities, specific objects, or actual instances”.

I think we know what abstract is when we see one.

Hope the image below conveys what Abstract is about.DSCF2784

Picture taken in an art gallery of the 798 Arts area of Beijing, China (photography was allowed). The image is based on a painting by an anonymous artist but turned into Black and White to make it looks even more abstract. . . . . . . . .

  1. Wow! Stunning entry Michael and you were so blessed to be able to photograph this beautiful art! Thanks so much for your entry and for taking part. Much appreciated. 😀

    • You have created a new Rorschach test with your photo, Michael. This is a beautiful piece of art and I love the care you always put into selecting the right picture for the themes.

    • Hi Opalla, you are right, this looks like a new Rorschah test! Whenever I find that I am not able to get hold of a photo that fits the theme, I rather decline to participate in the challenge. Thanks for the kind words 😉

  2. Your photograph is beautiful. It is sometimes difficult to capture black & white photos correctly as the grey scale can be tricky. Good job!

  3. Perspective is everything! It is what it is but at first I was looking at it as an ice cube in a glass, then smoke in the glass and now I have just accepted it for a very amazing abstract picked up by your photographers eye! Well done!

    • Many thanks for the comment. I will be posting the color version; will be interesting to see whether the image will appear different to you 🙂

    • I look forward to it. I wish I had even a smidgen of photographic talent, alas, I do not so I truly enjoy others views of the world in all it’s glory. Thank you for your beautiful photos.

    • Hi Kate, thanks so much for the nominations which I understand are important awards. I have decided not to pursue or accept any nomination / award during my retirement and for this reason, I have already turned down all similar awards. Knowing that my blog is read in many places of the world (over 160 countries) is already my biggest reward. Thanks for enjoying my posts and thinking of me for the nominations. Regards, Michael

    • Haven’t heard from you for a while; welcome back! You have rightly pointed out, the transition from light to dark is also amazing. Please see the color version in my next post. have a great weekend 🙂
