This week’s Photo Challenge is One.
Our journey to Yunnan, China took us to a huge limestone cave full of stalactites and stalagmites.
This image is particularly striking as it gives the impression that one stalagmite is holding up the whole roof of the cave.
Michael – what is the orange dotted thing at the bottom of it?
It is an illuminated sign with Chinese characters giving the name of the stalagmite. Merry Christmas!
OH! well thank you for that – and Merry Christmas to you as well, and hopes for a better New Year all around the globe….
Thank you 🙂
What a fascinating photo! I can truly appreciate why you chose this photo for the challenge.
The stalagmite also looks like the number One! Merry Christmas 🙂
I wasn’t so lucky…I did not get to see this! Amazing!
I have only taken a few shots of this cavern – there are just too many similar caverns in China. Merry Christmas!
Exquisite colours, Michael!
Thank you 🙂

The colors are also very unusual for an underground cave making it look even more intriguing.

They really allowed you go down into the cave? Fantastic!!
Hi, caves in China which are opened to the public usually have illuminated paths / steps inside them, also, it won’t be very steep but could be a bit slippery because of dripping water. Merry Christmas!
Same to , Michael – you and yours a magical New Year.
Many thanks gpcox for your support 🙂
This is a great photo for the challenge Michael. The stalagmite looks like it is the only thing holding up that cave ceiling.
One just wonder how many thousands of years it took to form one stalagmite like this. Merry Christmas!
Nature is amazing. Happy Christmas to you too!

Have you ever been to Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico, USA? They have giant stalactites and stalagmites.

Wow, that’s amazing! I am not usually very comfortable going into caves, but that one I might give a try! It’s beautiful.
