Weekly Photo Challenge: Street Life ( at Annecy, France)

This week’s photo challenge is Street Life.

We thought we have arrived at a toy land like place when we stepped out of our car upon arrival.  The houses are variously painted in pastel colors on both sides of a waterway running through the medieval town.DSCF1102

It really is just like Venice, with charming buildings that rise straight up from the waterways and lovely cobbled winding streets that wind their way through the ancient city.DSCF1060

Annecy is not only a particularly lovely town in the south of France. In the centre of the town on a the narrow streets are filled with markets and stalls selling antiques and other fripperies. The scent of freshly baked pizza and pastries wafts through the air as you wind your way through the labyrinthian shopping  I particularly like this stall selling cheese, wine and ham.DSCF1056

Everywhere you go, you will see shoppers, who filled all the space between stalls.DSCF1078

Annecy is pretty enough to wander around with its waterways and the backdrop of snow capped mountains in the distance.DSCF1032DSCF1082

You get a really lovely feel for what the city must have been like centuries ago, despite the modernities around you.DSCF1084

There is so much street live in Annecy – this is one of the elements which keeps Annecy alive!

    • Hi, I haven’t seen boats on this section of the waterway, but further down they have boats moored as cafes and rowing boats as well. Regards, Michael

  1. Lovely post Michael! You have such a wonderful sense of place in your photographs. It doesn’t take many words to give us the feeling that your shots convey. I saw you mentioned an earlier post about Annecy- I’ll have to go back and read that one too! Thanks so much for sharing this!

    • Hi, many thanks for the kind words. I still have a lot to learn on writing. Would like to post more on the topic of Street Live. Regards, Michael

  2. It’s places like this that keep my passion and need for travel and exploring going. Right now, at a dead end job, these are the shots that keep me plugging along with my photography so that one day I can quit, work for myself and afford to travel the world! Fantastic shot!

  3. My daughter went with a friend’s family to Annecy 15 years ago. She has wonderful memories of her two weeks at a resort there, and loved your photos. I did too — they make me want to see it. Well done!

  4. I live here in France (in the Dordogne) and many of your pictures are the type of scene I see every day. No doubt France has a huge charm and a sense of romance. Lovely pictures Michael.

    • Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I’ve found beauty in concrete and steel. And weed-covered neglected industrial wastelands. Your metrics are a product of your background, schemas, the last person you spoke with and how much sleep you got last night.

Or in my case, the remote freezing and my listening to an hour of Estoninan news this morning before realising I just needed to remove the batteries and replace them! 😉

  5. Thank you for looking in on my blog of the Pacific Cruise. I will be finishing it off as a serial over the next few days.
You have a great collection of images to display, you must be very proud of them. Thanks for sharing.
