“There are those who pass like ships in the night, who meet for a moment, then sail out of sight with never a backward glance of regret; folks we know briefly then quickly forget. Then there are friends who sail together, through quiet waters and stormy weather, helping each other through joy and through strife. And they are the kind who give meaning to life.” Author Unknown
Here in WordPress, are we just like ships, passing each other in the night? We all come and go out of each others lives. Some leave us with good memories, others not so much!
PS Photo of ship in Victoria Harbor, Hong Kong supplied by my friend CP Chan.
What a beautiful photo to go with the post.!
Many thanks, Chirose!
Hey! Great posts! Well, maybe we are like ships, we come… we go… take people in different trips, always bringing to a lot of different places! Be Japan, Brazil…. even if only through the photos and imagination!
This was a very good post! Thank you for this! Even if we are just passing each other in the night, some of us are more common site than others… Thank you for always stopping by my blog!
You are welcome, N.Netto. Hope the ships will continue passing each other with good memories!
Great photo and good words, Michael.
Thanks John for your always kind comment and support!
By passing in the night we can sometimes touch and by merely touching we leave an indelible mark. As I be!ieve you have my friend.
Hi Quiall, thanks very much for your kind words. Hope we are making impressions on each other !
Interesting that you connect the quote with our blogging experience. It is true that so many of us pass fleetingly.
Hi Lulu, this is my present feeling; but can we expect more?
I never knew the entire quotation. Thank you, Michael.
This is a quotation I lift from somewhere else. I think I have to thank the original author!
Nice shot
Thank you, Trish!
Very beautiful!
Thank you 🙂
Lovely pic. It does sometimes feel like ships passing – sometimes there’s only time for a like, to show our appreciation; other times we can board the ship and visit for a while. So many blogs, so little time,.
Maybe we should board more often!
Yes 🙂
🙂
Loved your post Sir, Nice picture too! However, even these night ships sometimes leave unforgettable marks and give meaning to our life. 🙂
Very true 🙂
I think many of us just briefly pass in the night while some sail together for longer…enriching the experience of sharing this earth while each seeing a different corner of it. Great post and lovely picture!
Yes, these ships allow us to see more of the world and leave an impression!
Great post! It seems that at WordPress, we all seem to leave some marks with one another.
You are so right, you have left a mark here as well!
I have not seen this particular longer quote before though the phrase ‘ships that pass in the night’ also occurs in a poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
I so enjoy visiting your blog, Michael – it is a wonderful way of armchair travelling 🙂
Long may our ships pass each other on our daily journey around WordPress 🙂
I like Longfellow’s poems and read them when I was at school.
Yeah, we are travelling round and round the globe, leaving impressions on others!
I love the idea of ships in the night. We may pass other lives so quickly in just a glance of an eye but I treasure every moment I step into another point of view, another piece of life. They like sparkling dust in the air which make my day (or night) so colorful and joyful even if I do not know them so well in real life. I love your blogpost, very clean but very thoughtful and I love to learn from people as much as I can. Thank you 🙂
Thank so much for your response, you have expressed it so well! Thanks also for liking my blog 🙂
🙂 My pleasure
🙂
Please congratulate Mr Chan on his photo — I never knew the origin of that very appropriate quote — wish we knew the author
I wish I know the author too. Mr. Chan is happy that there are so many Likes.
Thank you for posting. I found the opening quote very touching. Safe travels and Godspeed!
It is so touching that I wish I have shared it earlier! Regards, Michael
Can’t believe you get such good night-time photos. Love this one.
Thank you, Rusha!
Thanks for the follow! I love all your photos, and travels!
You are welcome. Hope you will stop by again 🙂
What a beautiful picture and I’ve always loved ‘ships in night’.
In fact, I like ships both during the day and of course also at night!
I like the blue reflected lights in the water …..
Looks enchanting!
What a nice shut of a moment, life is all about beautiful moments. I am happy being the passing ship like this beautifully 🙂
I am sure you won’t just pass once, hope you will pass again and again!
Perhaps we should embark the people in the Middle East on a cruise together so they will enjoy sailing on the same vessel. When they return to port, they will be friends throwing roses at each others instead of missiles.
I loved your picture and your deep quotation. Deep meaning and food for thought. Thank you for sharing Michael Lai. Maybe our ships will meet someday. It is a small world and we never know what is written in the sky.
I hope all people in the world will have a deeper understanding of each other and pay more respect to each other and accepting that each may differ and not passing each other in the night!
Thanks for your post. It reminds me of a poem by Xu Zhimo “Chance”. Beautiful yet real. Internet access has increased the volume of ships passing each other and decreased the chances of casting even a passing glance. .
You really know so much of the Chinese poem; well said as well!
Thanks. Chance or divine appointment enables some to cross each other’s path in the vast ocean.
Very true!
