Tree Growing Out from a Girl’s Head

Have you ever seen a tree growing out of a human head?

This picture was recently taken in the Art Central exhibition in Hong Kong.Tree Girl

The photo was taken with my iPhone – in fact, this is my first ever Instagram picture I have uploaded onto my blog.

I was thinking that they wouldn’t allow photography in the exhibition. However, both the Art Central and the Art Basel exhibition did allow photography.

Please enjoy πŸ™‚

  1. I rather like that sculpture. I have been surprised in recent years by galleries allowing photography – though all specify that no flash and no tripods can be used. I assume that the advent of camera phones mean it has become too difficult to police so they focus on the photography rules that really matter instead.

  2. Hi there!
I have nominated you for the The Five Photos, Five Stories Challenge. I really like your blog and thought you would be a good choice. You have such a diverse list of photos and stories.
The rules require you to post a photo each day for five consecutive days and attach a story to the photo. It can be fiction or non-fiction, a poem or simply a short paragraph – it’s entirely up to you. Then each day, nominate another blogger to carry on this challenge. Accepting the challenge is entirely up to the person nominated, it is not a command. And actually everyone can join in. So feel free to if you like the idea.

I nominated you on Day 3.

  3. The perspective of this photo place it as a whole new compounded one. You can see part of the gallery, and the other two pieces of art, all perfectly balance, with the central point, the sleeping girl. “Bravo!!, Mr. Lai”. And, by the way, what a suggestive sculpture…trees coming out of our minds??…..That’s beautiful,……. “even more can come out of our minds”… (we know)…. there is a saying:…..” A focus mind, is the most powerful force in the universe” (Chinese wisdom cookie)… ” God, Let us be as pure, and creative always”.

  4. Michael: Is the sculpture created by a local artist? I am glad that HK has advanced so much in art these days. On taking pictures in museum or gallery, nowadays if you do not use flash, it is allowed in many museums.
Do you like taking pix with your iphone? Enjoy your “new” camera!

    • Hi Denise, it is not created by a local artist. Depending on the exhibits, some of the local museums do not even allow taking pictures with iPhones if it emits a red light to detect the distance for focusing. I don’t think I like taking pics with iPhones yet as there is not much controls at all on shutter speed, exposure etc and the pictures have a lack of colors. I am sure this will be improved. I learned of a phone with camera selling at USD1200 can do great pictures too. Regards, Michael
