Never seen such a waterfall!
Picture sent to me by my wife travelling in the South Island, New Zealand.
I would hate to go anywhere near this waterfall as it looks so intimidating.
Understand that hiking the Milford Track at this time of the year is also quite laborious.
My folks said that they feel cold and have never thought they have to wade through so much water.
Definitely a challenge!
Milford Sounds is on my bucket list and especially so seeing these photos. But I am not sure about the tracking; looks a bit difficult…but will have to do it.
Take the cruise!
Oh great tip. Thank you.
🙂
One of my favourite places on earth; great wilderness
The flora and fauna are also interesting / beautiful!
My home country. Great photos.
I suppose they bring back fond memories!
Another enjoyable view of places in the world I would never have know existed. Thank you. ;0)
I learn from your blog too!
What a nice compliment. Thank you.
🙂
“Kiwiland” does look very beautiful. 🙂
Very photogenic indeed!
And how did you manage with the locals’ rather peculiar accent? New-Zealanders I have a hard time to follow. 🙂
I think the Aussie accent especially those from the more remote regions are more difficult to manage; I am pretty alright with the New-Zealanders.
Interesting. I never had much trouble with Aussies, but then I never talked with someone from the Outback. hadn’t thought about it, Awstraylians probably have several different accents. Like I’m sure you can tell someone’s region, the way he/she speaks cantonese.
Not too many Mainlanders can speak Cantonese well as it has a lot more intonations than the ordinary Mandarin speaker. You can easily distinguish them as mainlanders from their accent.
So Cantonese would actually be harder to understand than Mandarin for a foreigner? I mean the “tone” thing for me is very difficult. It all sounds the same. 😦
Mandarin (which has 4 tones /sounds) is now Romanized and more easier to learn than Cantonese ( which has 7 or 8 sounds) and not Romanized.
7 or 8? OMG. I think I will pass then. 🙂
Just found out, 6 tones for open syllables and 3 tones for checked syllables, a total of 9.
9? 😦 That means I may definitely pass on Cantonese or Mandarin. Sorry. 🙂
Mandarin is not that difficult to learn if you just want to learn how to speak, not the characters.
Well yeah. Maybe. I still think I would have problems with the tones. Plus not being able to write? I’ve learned a few languages sometimes by ear, but most time with the possibility of writing. Writing helps me commit to memory. But Maybe I will try Mandarin some day.
If you learn mandarin by the Romanized sounds, you can write them as if they are English, but not the actual Chinese characters. Many people in China will know what you mean when you write the Romanized words. I like the Chinese characters and have been learning them since kindergarten. That’s why I am practicing Chinese Calligraphy, it is expressing the characters in an art form.
Yeah, I remember you mentioned that you were learning calligraphy. I understand it involves a certain preparation, and doing it must be soothing for the mind.
Yes, soothing for the mind and improves the concentration and even your health!
Hadn’t thought of that. But it’s very likely. I’ll start chinese calligraphy tomorrow. 🙂
A good way to learn Chinese word by word too!
True. I have a book somewhere even a brush my daughters had bought me as a gift. What I’m not sure is whether the sound (in Mandarin) is identified with the characters. I’ll have to check.
All of us needs an impetus to start on something new!
Like a good kick in the…?
