Milford Track December 27, 2015 by Michael Lai in A Photo a Week, Travel, Travel New Zealand, Travel Theme, Weekly Photo Challenge, Wordless Wednesday and tagged Milford Track, new zealand, roots, tree This is one of the stunning picture taken by my wife during her trip on the Milford Track. I still have to make out what the green undergrowth is. Given it is a Holiday Season, I am a bit lazy to research. Hope you will bear with me. Michael, I think it is moss growing on the rocks and tree trunks. Another lovely NZ photo,
I think so too, but wasn’t sure.
We saw it elsewhere and it was the thickest moss I’ve ever seen. They do get lots of rain.
I understand moss only thrive under very clean environment – clean air, lots of oxgen – no doubt, Milford is very clean.
I also think it is moss — I’ve seen it thick like this in rainforest conditions on our own (Canadian) west coast, most spectacularly up in Haida Gwaii (formerly called the Queen Charlotte Islands.) A splendid, haunting photo; it does the moss & forest justice.
Yes, they are moss, a bit haunting, as you said 🙂
Beautiful – very Lord of the Rings image
Glad that you like it!
So beautiful! 🙂 ♥ ❤
