When I saw this statue in the Angkor Wat Temple, I was awed by the contrast in colors.
While I am not a follower of the Buddha or the Hindu religion, I have full of reverence for them.
As I understand both these religions or cultures direct people to do good.
This photo turns out to be one of my photos which have the biggest number of “Clicks” on it.
Just wonder what readers’ state of mind is when they view the picture?
I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m taken by the red, orange, yellow colors but also the shape of the wheel above the statue’s head. It looks like a spiral moving both inwardly and outwardly – the spiritual journey.
Think the “wheel” above is a parasol. The whole image compels you to be pious.
Beautiful
Thank you!
the bright colours against the dark tones… wow, an amazing photo.
Thank you, maybe, I should elaborate more on the image!
yes please! I’m curious to know more. ๐
Need to do some research on the head of the statue – is it the head of the Buddha or Vishnu – the head changed with the dynasty when the religion of the place changed. Interesting?
Looks like Buddha… Wow, interesting! I didn’t know that.
๐
its a dramatic picture and an interesting angle!
Thank you, Lisa!
Great contrast. Great shot. Maybe the ceiling hints at infinity, and the fabric below, because of the bright colours hints at Life? Dunno. ๐
Good thinking, Brieuc!
Michael this doesn’t seem to be Buddha for sure. It can be Vishnu or Brahma as both had more than two hands. I haven’t been to Cambodia but before Buddhism Hindu religion was popular based on certain information.
There are literature around which said the head of Vishnu was replaced by a Buddha head when the temple was turned into a Buddhist temple.
Oh! Then you are better informed about this.
What I heard was that these were actually Hindu temples. I have not heard about conversion story. thanks for updating Michael!
I still need to get to the bottom of it.
