Weekly Photo Challenge: Edge ( for Suicide ?)

This week’s theme for Photo Challenge is Edge.

Tojinbo  is a one kilometer long stretch of rugged basalt cliffs along the Sea of Japan coast north of Fukui City.

These are the cliffs where some Japanese may jump off to kill themselves.dsc_0024

The rocky coastline has been carved out by the waves, leaving deep chasms and precipitous bluffs that tower up to 30 meters above the water below. The coarse, pillar-shaped rocks look like bundles of hexagonal and pentagonal rods and are a unique geologically formation that can be seen in several places in the world and nowhere else in Japan.

We spent half a day going up and down the area, admiring at the scenery and taking photos.

  1. What a beautiful place. We have similar rock formations in the UK. It is sad that some people throw themselves to their deaths, there. In my career as a Psychotherapist, I work hard to help people in distress. Let us hope more people will be inspired to live, by such beautiful landscapes, than those who may choose to seek an ending.
