Sighting of over 90 Bird Species in Year 2022

What have I done in Year 2022?

I must admit – not much.

My travel outside HK has completely stopped.

I was worried that I may be infected with Covid 19 while travelling.

In which case, I may even end up hospitalized in a foreign country.

Not only that, I was also worried if I should do any outward travel, I could be quarantined at both the destination and also on returning home.

The local quarantine was originally 14 days. This was progressively decreased to 7 days and now 3 days.

Living with Covid 19, I took up bird watching and photographing since November 2021, in addition to my daily hike.

Prior to that, I have been photographing egrets in flocks or bulbuls nesting on my rooftop.

For this new hobby, I have acquired some equipment which allows me taking photos of birds and even flying birds.

I am still experimenting and learning how to take bird photos, especially those of flying birds which I have just started.

Below, I have prepared a list of birds which I have encountered mainly in 2022. The types I have encountered, which are mostly also photographed, exceed 90. Some of them is local, some are passage visitors.

This new hobby has taken up quite a lot of my time. It has resulted me in spending less time on Chinese Calligraphy and other activities.

I have been spending many hours on reading up books, websites on birds and practicing shooting birds.

What will I be doing in Year 2023?

I honestly don’t know.
