Discoveries in My Morning Hike

Woke up this morning, I was wondering whether I should be making my morning hike as there were some thunder storms during the night.

The treks will be soggy and maybe even slippery.

We have the wettest April in 60 years and I have not been able to hike for worrying that the paths are too slippery.

The sun has come out and I decided to take a chance.

Half an hour into the walk, I noticed these white flowers fallen on the trek; they are still fresh and not trampled over. They look like a painting.IMG_1861

Continuing on, I was somewhat surprised by what I saw.IMG_1863

A little red crab was blocking my way. I was quite puzzled as I have never seen them before at this hillside location.

OK, the crab maybe 20 meters away from a mountain stream. I gather these crabs are amphibious. He was looking quite angry at me with his little bright eyes.IMG_1869

Then continuing on, deeper into the forest was this tree which still has some red maple leaves at this time of the year.

All I had was a smartphone. The tree is a bit out of focus, but never mind, I know my readers will forgive me with the somewhat blur picture.IMG_1870

Then I stumbled on some fungi or mushrooms on a tree stump. I know some of them are poisonous.

Towards the end of my hike, I found another tree stump.IMG_1872

It looks rather abstract, with some fungi attaching to it.

I was thinking of the theme for this week’s Photo Challenge – Abstract – does it look abstract.

I wish I had taken a proper camera with me.

Anyway, please enjoy the pictures – as much as I have enjoyed my early morning walk.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Abstract

I am not good at photographing subjects which are abstract in nature.

These two photos were taken in Beijing’s Area 798 – an artsy area.DSCF2784

They could well be my only photos which show things abstract in nature.

Please note I did not photographed the bubbles etc, I only took snap shots of two pieces of painting.DSCF2785

Please enjoy!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Masterpiece

This week’s challenge is Masterpiece.

This is not my masterpiece. I have gone through my archive, unfortunately, none of the photos in my collection can qualify as a masterpiece.

There may be one or two photos taken in the non-digital era that I would like to think are my masterpieces. However, I have lost them; they only exist in my memory. In my retirement, I will be searching for my masterpiece for sharing.DSCF2784

This image is a response to requests ( in English and Spanish!) from several reader friends.  It is the color version of the B&W picture I uploaded in my last post Black and White Photo Challenge: Abstract.

As blogger friend Opalla has pointed out, this is a new Rorschach test which I have created. The image may depict ice cube, bubbles, horse rearing up, smoke etc. It just reflects what is on your mind.

Hope you would like this image too.

Black and White Weekly Photo Challenge: Abstract

This is my entry for Sonel’s Black & White Weekly photo challenge.

Abstract is quite difficult to define. When I look up a dictionary, it explains as: “thought of apart from concrete realities, specific objects, or actual instances”.

I think we know what abstract is when we see one.

Hope the image below conveys what Abstract is about.DSCF2784

Picture taken in an art gallery of the 798 Arts area of Beijing, China (photography was allowed). The image is based on a painting by an anonymous artist but turned into Black and White to make it looks even more abstract. . . . . . . . .
