Travel Theme: Costume

Ailsam’s Travel Theme at Where’s My Backpack this week is “Costume“.

We had a good time travelling in Yunnan, China.

One evening, we went to see a show where they featured all the customs, dances and costumes of the different minority tribes in Yunnan.DSC_0392

Their traditional clothing were so colorful (some even look modern)Β and the show was entertaining.

Altogether, it was an unforgettable evening . . . . . . . . . . .

  1. Not just “modern”… It looks like there’s even a mixed European influence there. Also reminds me of Mexican ballet folklorico. Post more! πŸ™‚

  2. That’s a cracking good shot Michael, from one retired professional to another, half a world away.

  3. Michael, the whole frame is alive with colour! Blues, reds, yellows, can almost hear the performance… Did you manage any video footage, or do you know of anywhere on the web I might find a performance?

    • There is definitely a change in the clothing and colors of the Chines people. Some 20-30 years ago, there were very few colors and many people just dressed in dark blue; but I think the clothing of the minority people usually have beautiful colors. Hope you will enjoy your trip πŸ™‚

  4. The juxtaposition of colors are beautiful. That blue background is so bright and yet somehow it works! Good shot.

    • Hi pensamientos de vida, thanks so much for the nominations which I understand are important awards. I have decided not to pursue or accept any nomination / award during my retirement and for this reason, I have already turned down all similar awards. Knowing that my blog is read in many places of the world (over 160 countries) is already my biggest reward. Thanks for enjoying my posts and thinking of me for the nominations. Regards, Michael

  5. Your pictures are absolutely beautiful. I agree with a comment earlier that they have a Mexican folkloric feel to them as well. I hope by the time that I retire that my pictures are half as great as yours. Plus that I get to travel to some of these wonderful places you have written about. πŸ™‚

    • I also agree there is a Mexican feel there, especially the hats. Some people say that the south American Indians have facial features similar to Asians and believe that their ancestors have crossed over from Asia to the Americans from the Bering Strait / Alaska. Not sure how true this is. Regards, Michael
